Citrix freezing up on Linux Mint 22.3, or: is it FireFox?! Whenever a "cold boot" is done on my machine running Citrix (it's started from the browser) I get a load of error messages (after updating to LM 22.3). The system also freezes after some time. Errors below. The only solution is, after a "cold boot", to immediatly issue a reboot. After the reboot there are no errors logged and no freezes. Earlier on I had Citrix errors (random freezes) caused by the x86/split lock-errors crashing the kernel (Linux Mint 22.0, this was solved by turning split lock detection off. The new LM 22.3 seemed to have introduced a new problem (or perhaps better the other way around, Citrix is now causing a new error?). System: DELL Inspiron 3910, Kernel: 6.8.0-94-generic, Cinnamon 6.6.6 Citrix: icaclient 25.03.0.66 amd64 Citrix Workspace app for Linux Errors (journalctl -b -1) below: Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: LoadFile "Unable to open file: /" Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: GetStringUnprotected "Resolved path value is null, could not find string value for name=1" Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: GetBoolean "Resolved path value is null, could not find boolean value for name=enableInSessionToolbar" Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: LoadFile "Unable to open file: /" Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: GetStringUnprotected "Resolved path value is null, could not find string value for name=1" Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: GetBoolean "Resolved path value is null, could not find boolean value for name=enableMultiMonitorOptionInToolbar" Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: LoadFile "Unable to open file: /" Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: LoadFile "Unable to open file: /" Feb 06 08:37:36 soho citrix-wfica[3089]: GetBoolean "Resolved path value is null, could not find boolean value for name=enableCTXPDFPrinter" How I tried to solve it 1. Updated all LM 22.3 software 2. Update Citrix client. Downloaded and installed the latest version from Citrix (https://www.citrix.com/downloads/workspace-app/linux/workspace-app-for-linux-latest.html). During installation I set "App protection component" to "NO" (normally, I choose "YES" per earlier instructions I received but now to "NO" as this is the default setting during installation). New Citrix Version now installed: $ cat /opt/Citrix/ICAClient/pkginf/Ver.core.linuxx64 ID_VERSION=25.08.10.111 DISP_VERSION=25.08.10 CHANGE_NO=111 ID_PRODUCT_NAME=CitrixICAClient DISP_PRODUCT_NAME=Citrix Workspace app for Linux uname=Linux soho 6.8.0-100-generic #100-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue Jan 13 16:40:06 UTC 2026 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux PORT=linuxx64 LANGUAGE=* date=20260206162247 CET INFO_FILE=Debian_installation DATA_FILE=Debian_package RESULTS - Doing a few 'cold boots' (turning off the machine) I found no errors logged. - a few days later: "Citrix" started freezing the computer again. Well, so it looked. However, no errors in the logging. Until the next day I booted the computer, didn't use Citrix, started FireFox (as usual) to go online and within 10 minutes the system frooze up again. Clearly, .. there must be something wrong with FireFox! - removed FireFox completely - Switched to Vivaldi as browser. This solved the issue (for now). Stayed with Vivaldi for over two weeks, no more system freezes. IS IT FIREFOX OR NOT? On the Linux Mint Desktop group (Facebook) there were a lot of people in full denial that this could be caused by FireFox. So, I decided to re-install FireFox to put it to the test. However, this time I didn't install the system install offered in the software manager but the Flatpak version. Because, that will be the one that is the most recent one, right? The past few weeks I've been using Vivaldi as well as FireFox (flatpak-version). It seems the issue is now solved.
